If you haven't discovered it by now, you need to update your plugin install. When Ryan updated his plugin at WordPress.org something went wrong and the Javascript files didn't upload - so no animations. He's since corrected the problem after I pointed it out to him, so it should be in working order. And while I admittedly have contributed to the menu plugin extensively, it's really Ryan's plugin, I just enhanced his work by combining it with yet another person's work.
